Snow Rose Cookies Tutorial

How to make super easy President Snow roses. Great for Hunger Games parties. Or leave off the "blood" for cute roses - Rae Gun Ramblings

Did you guys go see the movie?! What did you think? I am being a good sister and waiting until my sister can go so I have not seen it yet but I can't wait. I'm still celebrating the Hunger Games movie release though so today I present to you President Snow's Rose Cookies Recipe. It's so easy and of course you can do them in other colors for fun parties, how cute would they be for a spring luncheon or shower!

The trick to making gorgeous roses out of frosting - Rae Gun Ramblings

I thought about putting them on pops like my mermaid cookie pops and attaching a few leaves but I thought I'd keep it simple today and just do the basic cookies. They are really SO easy to do all you need is the right tip. I've shared how to make rosettes with frosting before with my chocolate rose ganache cupcakes but since it's been a while since I share those I thought I'd go over it again!

Step by step instructions on how to make perfect roses out of frosting - Rae Gun Ramblings

What You Need
  • Basic Sugar Cookies
  • 2D Wilton Tip and Pastry bag
  • Frosting (I just used the stuff in the tub)
What to Do
  1. Once your cookies are baked and cooled scoop about 1 C of frosting into your pastry bag with the tip attached.
  2. Hold the bag perpendicular to the cookie and starting in the middle squeeze and piped around in a circle. The key is to keep the bag always upright. You don't want it tilted or to turn it at all. You hold the bag perpendicular the whole the the only movements is drawing the circle.
  3. When  you reach the edge pull it downward to break off the frosting.

Easy Rose Cookies Tutorial - Rae Gun Ramblings

So easy right. Once you try it you'll become addicted and you'll want to put roses on everything! Perfect for Hunger Games parties, President Snow inspired cookies - Rae Gun Ramblings Now if you want to be silly and put some "blood" on your rose for our favorite evil President, just stir in some red food coloring to a little of the frosting and then place  a few drops of the dyed frosting on your roses.

Katniss Everdeen Speech Outfit by Sew Chibi

Good Morning Rae Gun readers!  I'm Kat from Sew Chibi, and I am super pumped to be here today for this series!  We are pretty huge Hunger Games fans in our house! There were so many choices of gorgeous outfits to choice from so honing in on one was a bit of a challenge!
I was toying around with the idea of doing something extravagant like the black feather dress or this half sleeve half cape quilted coat from the new unreleased Hunger Games.  But, I figured it would be more practical to make something that could be worn over and over again.
In the end, I chose to do the outfit that Katniss wears in the Catching Fire when she and Peeta go to District 11 and give their poignant speech.
The look was simple enough and I had just the patterns in mind to use.
I used the Mini Penny Pinafore by Kitschy Coo for the tunic and the Hosh pants, newly re-released, by Lou Bee Clothing.
I altered the pinafore pattern by redrafting the front center panel to include an off-centered zipper that is half exposed.  Then, since I couldn't find blue fur on my fabric run, I chose to improvise with blue stretch velvet, using fusible fleece to plump it up a bit. Also, I measured around the full length of the neckline, adding in seam allowance, and made it have more of a rounded Neru collar.
The arm finishings didn't necessarily come out as clean as I would have wanted per sa.  I was on the fence whether or not I should tuck the bindings under or leave them exposed.  I chose to leave them exposed so that it mimicked Katniss' tunic detailing.
The pants were simple black bottom-weight sateen.  I added in a strip of black pleather to the middle of the pant leg bottoms, just like Katniss' pants.
All in all, I really like the way it came together!  Azriella tried to be serious for the shoot but her sister was pulling funny faces in the window and making her laugh!
Most of the the shoots ended up looking like this instead!
Well, that's it for me!  I hope you enjoyed my little snippet on this awesome Hunger Games tour!  Thanks again Marissa for having me!  Be sure to stop by Sew Chibi or Sew Geeky to check out what I'm up to!
many many smooches!
Kat

Harry Potter and Hunger Games Christmas Ornaments plus 35 Tutorials for Trimming the Tree

Quick and easy book nerd ornaments that also work for pictures, quotes and other things! Hunger Games and Harry Potter ideas - Rae Gun Ramblings

Book lovers need Christmas ornaments too! But even if you're not a book nerd you can use today's tutorial to make any photograph or printable into a cute and easy Christmas ornament! I made both Harry Potter and Hunger Games ones. We are in the middle of my Happy Hunger Games series after all :) Quick and easy Christmas ornaments for book nerds with free printables #harrypotter #hungergames - Rae Gun Ramblings And as a bonus I've got another free Hunger Games printable from Heidi of Digknity. I used it to make the Hunger Games ornament but you can easily use it to make other awesome crafts or just print one up and throw it in a frame for your favorite Tribute! For the Horcrux one I just typed it up (they match the Potter shirts and book bags that I sell in my shop).

How to make easy Bookish Ornaments (also works great for any photo) - Rae Gun Ramblings

To make the ornament you need
  • 3X2 wood shapes
  • Wallet sized prints (you only need one per ornament or two if you want to do front and back)
  • Dimensional magic (I used glitter dimensional magic on the horcrux ornament and I used gold for the "ever" on the Hunger Games one and then the traditional kind for the rest of the ornament)
  • Basic glue
  • Ribbon
  • Something to cut holes (I used a cropidile but you can also use a drill and a hole punch)
  1. Glue your print to your wood piece.
  2. Punch a hole  (if you are using a drill I would hole punch the print and drill the hole before gluing them together)
  3. If you want to accent a letter like I did on the "Ever" do that now. And let dry.
  4. Next cover with a thin even coat of dimensional magic all around. If there are bubbles use a dry pin or your finger to pop them or move them off the edge of the board.
  5. String in your ribbon, tie and hang it on your tree!
