Ode to Tris Dauntless Shirt and Divergent Stencils

I’ve had the idea for this shirt Divergent inspired shirt for months. After finally finding a tank on clearance that would work I couldn’t find gray fabric paint. I decided to wing it and discovered that yes you can mix fabric paint to make your own custom colors. Awesome right?

If you didn’t already catch on this my Ode to Tris from the Divergent series shirt. The three birds are supposed to be the bird tattoo got to represent her family members.  I also added a quote that I love that epitomizes her choice to join Dauntless and be herself. I’m wearing this today to go pick up my copy of Insurgent.

I absolutely love the fact that I can pick up a clearance shirt and using some freezer paper and fabric paint make a totally unique fan shirt! If you want to make out your own you can check out my full freezer paper stenciling tutorial here.

Also since I know a few of you you share my love for the Divergent series so here are the images I used. Just click on them to enlarge and then you can save them to your computer.

The birds were edited from a few of the birds here.  I selected a few, flipped and angled them so they would be how I wanted in a cluster of three and be flying towards the heart.

Happy Insurgent (and Bitterblue) Day! Oh and if you haven’t seen my Insurgent and Divergent necklaces that I made last week using an image from the book cover check them out, I’m super proud of them.

UPDATE: After many months of people asking if they can buy one from me I’ve finally started to sell some of these Tris tanks t-shirts and book bags. For more about ordering just email me at raegunwear at g mail.

This Divergent tank is so awesome. Great DIY tutorial with stencils.

This looks so good! I cannot wait to read Insurgent – I am downloading it to my Kindle later today (after I have done all my work – because once I have it I know I won’t be able to put it down!) Have a great day

This is amazing Marissa! I love how simple your design is, and the quote that you chose beautifully sums up Tris – and so many of the rest of us too.

I really need to read Divergent. My continuous walk-of-shame saying. I’m hoping to reduce my review reads in order to make more time for the books sitting on my shelf. Unfortunately when that finally happens, the library usually lets me know that 5 of my holds are available. I stink with good timing.

Anyways, back to my original thought. Divergent. Must read. Now…

(And your shirt is absolutely gorgeous even though I don’t have the background knowledge yet.)

It’s good to know you can mix fabric paints. I totally would have been scouring every craft store and then probably giving up on the color or the project. Thanks for saving me the insanity!
