Fandom Subscription Boxes for Harry Potter Fans

Looking for an amazing gift for a Harry Potter fan? Fandom subscription boxes are pretty much the best thing next to Owl Mail.

CrateJoy Fandom Subscription Boxes review

CrateJoy has a wealth of of amazing boxes perfect for Potterheads, book nerds, and all kinds of geek lovers. Every month my family members and I anxiously await the arrival our subscription boxes. Yup we each have our own! Teddy and I have our own respective bookish boxes (mine’s a YA fandom one and Teddy’s is a picture book one) and the husband has one full of snacks. My sister and the nieces have their own collection of boxes delivered too. Needless to say that we are BIG fans of happy mail.

Amazing fandom subscription boxes for harry potter fans

I’ve talked about some of my favorite bookish boxes before, but to celebrate Fandom month and of course Harry Potter’s birthday I thought it would be fun to share some more. These make amazing gifts and many offer single boxes and short subscriptions for those looking for less of a commitment, but really there’s just something magical about having a happy little surprise to open up every month!

Accio! Box

Accio! Box awesome Harry Potter subscription box for adults

I have to admit I’ve thought about subscribing to Accio! Box many many times. I’m so excited to finally have one in my hands. These boxes are specially curated for adult Harry Potter fans and when you sign up you tell them your Hogwarts House along with your T-shirt size. The Gryffindor print that came in this box is dreamy, the wooden light switch is so cool, and this month there was a pillowcase instead of a shirt how cool is that. Bed pillowcase not throw pillow which I think is even cooler. I have a feeling like a new box might be in my future.

Fizzy Fairy Apothecary Box

fizzy fairy fandom box a monthly subscription box with bathbombs and a geeky theme

There are few things better to me than sitting in a cozy bath with a great book. The Fizzy Fairy Apothecary Box is an monthly apothecary box with a fandom theme. Fun right? The one pictured above is based on The Last Unicorn. Freaking amazing I know. The bath bombs are huge and gorgeous but I think my favorite part of it is that there are 6 full sized fizzers in each box! And I love that even if you are not into the particular fandom of the month you can still really enjoy the box.

Shelflove Crate

Shelflove Crate bookish subscription box

Love to read but don’t know what to read next? Shelflove Crate makes things easy for you. Every month you get a newly released YA fantasy or sci-fi selection complete with an amazing assortment of goodies that fit the book theme taking you on an amazing literary journey. That thing in the cup is a mirror with a quote from one of my favorite book series. Ahhh love it soooo much! This one is jammed packed full of goodies I can’t wait to read the book and see how they relate!

Once Upon a Book Club

Once Upon a Book Club suprise presents that match up to a book as you read

If you’re someone who loves to just dive into a story (or know someone like that) Once Upon a Book Club box is perfect for literary immersion. Aside from the cutest packaging ever, this monthly subscription box sends you a book a long with themed wrapped presents. Each gift corresponds to a page number in the box and you’re supposed to wait to open the appropriate gift for when you get to that page in the box. SO fun right!? I know what I’m reading next! I’ll be sure to share what’s in each pack on my Instagram once I get through the story. As a fun bonus you can snag this one for 10% off if you use the code “CRATEJOY”.

Bookified

Bookified Monthly Harry Potter letters

I have always said I want more. More stories, more of the Wizarding world, just more. That’s exactly what you get with these monthly letters from Bookified. Each month you receive a letter that fills in the gaps of the Harry Potter stories we all love. This one from James Potter (Harry’s father) is addressed to Sirius and talks all about baby Harry right before the events of the Wizarding War. I’d be lying if I said that my heart didn’t melt just a little bit. This is such a unique idea and would make for a crazy fun gift for die-hard Harry Potter fans. Bonus points that it comes in a simple envelope too.

These five are just a taste of the fun Fandom options that CrateJoy has to offer. I’ve had subscriptions to four of their other bookish boxes that I adored and I’ve scrolled their catalogue and can’t wait to check out even more! If you’re looking for an amazing gift for a book lover or geek I’m telling you happy mail in the form of a subscription box will be a hit.
hands down the best gift for a harry potter fan or book lover

Do you subscribe to any subscription boxes or have you thought about doing so? I’d love to hear about others I should check out!

DIY Expecto Patronum Bath Bombs

Love Harry Potter and a relaxing bath? Well these DIY Expecto Patronum bath bomb are just what the doctor ordered!

how to make Harry Potter bath bombs DIY tutorial

I’m a Lush addict but the price tag on the fancy bath fizzles umm no thanks. So I finally decided to make my own and of course I couldn’t do just any old bath bombs I had to do Harry Potter ones. I made three versions in all but these first ones are supposed to represent the Expecto Patronum spell.

DIY Expecto Patronum Harry Potter Bath Bombs

In the books and movies this charm is used for protection. Your patronus  appears in an animal form and can help fight off various dangers. A witch or wizard doesn’t get to pick their patronus it just is.

Harry Potter Surprise Bath Bombs Patronus

So when you place this star covered bath bomb in the tub it glitters and fizzes with power and reveals a hidden animal bead signifying your patronus. FUN right!?

How to Make a Harry Potter Patronus Bath Bombs

1). Combine Wet Ingredients

  • 3/4 tsp water
  • 2tsp essential oil
  • 2 1/2 tsp coconut oil, melted

2). Combine Dry Ingredients

Note: I combined the colorings after I mixed the other ingredients but I think it would work better to add it to the wet ingredients but I was noncommittal on colors before ;)

3). SLOWLY add the wet ingredients to the dry. Drop by drop. And mix. Mixing with hands works better. Divide up and color as desired

how to make galaxy bath bombs

4). Place a small amount of edible stars into one half of the bath bomb mold.

5). Fill mold. Press to pack down and fill more so it’s mounding over the top. Place a small animal figurine, bead or other “patronus” onto the mound. Just make sure the patronus is big enough if won’t go down the drain.

6). Fill the other half of the mold so it is packed and overflowing. Smoosh together and twist so that the excess presses out through the center. Press time. If you have extra molds let it sit in the mold to dry for a few minutes or until fully dry. If you don’t have extras then carefully remove the bath bomb and repeat the steps until you use up your mixture. I find that when I take time to color and change the designs by my very last bath bomb it’s dry and has a hard time holding but the rest until then do great.

Do I Need an Interactive Harry Potter Wand?

When I didn’t think they could make the Wizarding World of Harry Potter any better they go and completely blow my mind with the extension and interactive Harry Potter wands!

great tips on wizarding world of harry potter wands

You know how we’ve ALL practiced Wingardiun Leviosa? Well picture that but you actually see the the feather floating into the air after you swish and flick. But really you can see it in my video below! Universal Orlando was seriously my happy place before but guys the interactive wands are a game changer.

great resource on wands and universal vactions

Are the Wands at Universal Worth It?

But you might be wondering, are the wands actually worth the cost? And to that I say a resounding YES. Last year when I went to Universal Studios Orlando with my family we all got wands. And I brought mine back with me this year. There was just something magical about having our own wizarding right hands. But it’s not just a wonderful souvenir of a great vacation, we were immediate able to USE the wands to magnify our fun. Do the wand ceremony in Olivander’s it’s WAY fun and really cute.

What Do the Wands Do?

You see all around the Wizarding World both in Hogesmede and in Diagon Alley there are medallions on the floor. These let  you know that it is a spot to cast a charm. Engraved on the medallions are the incantation to use as well as directions for how to move your wand. The exact position and speed can take some practice but once you get it you can watch your spell change things. Also there are some secret ones that you can find (ask the staff if you need clues of where to look).

For Harry Potter fans young and old it’s worth while to carve out a chunk of the day to go to each spot and casts the spells. It’s super fun. One of the best things about the Wizarding World is the 360 degree angles of awesomeness. EVERYWHERE you look, in every direction, your immersed in the magic. And when you add the wands to the mix you all of a sudden become an active participant.

Can't make it to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter right now. No worries tour it through pictures while you get excited for when you can really be there!

I’ve said it before but the attention to detail is incredible and each of the magical displays show different fun scenes and peeks into the world so many of us have brought into our hearts through the books and movies. If you have not had the honor of visiting the Wizarding World at Universal Orlando I’m telling you it’s worth saving up for. 100% guys make it happen.

For a bit of eye candy you can see my photo tour of the Wizarding World and if you want a video tour check out my videos I took while walking through Diagon Alley and Hogsmede on my most recent trip. It really is amazing.

all about wands at the wizarding world of harry potter

Which Wand Should You Get?

Now you might be curious about some muggle facts about the wands. The wands are stunning and there are a variety of styles and sizes. You can buy the wands styled after those that your favorite characters carried. I think my favorite character wands is Luna’s SOOOO pretty. In addition to charter wands there are generic ones. Generic in the sense that they aren’t styled or attached to a witch or wizard from the stories. I opted for one of those. I just felt like it was more MY WAND that way. But they are all special in their own ways.

While we all know that the wand choses the wizard and all you might want to consider the size of your want when you purchase it. Remember you’ll be carrying them around the park when you’re not using them and if you’re like me you’ll want to lug the protective box it comes with just “in case”. I picked out a wand I loved but it happened to be one of the longer ones and it was definitely trickier to fit into the lockers with the rest of my stuff when I was going on the roller coasters. A few times I had to get two lockers. On this last trip I was gifted with one of the smaller wands and that was so much easier to carry around and stash when I was ready to ride. Just something to keep in mind.

must read guide to interactive wands at universal

I would encourage you as you are planning for your trip to the Wizarding World make sure to work into your budget buying the wands even if your whole family shares one it will make the magic even more real and memorable. There’s just something so fun about casting the charms yourself and working together as a family to see what the different spells do.

cabana bay beach resort

I feel like the most blessed girl ever to have been hosted on this last trip. It was the best mix of work and pleasure. We spent the first half of the days talking shop while working at the gorgeous retro Cabana Bay Beach Resort which made me feel like I was transported straight into the Jetsons cartoon world.  As a perk for staying in a park hotel we got park passes with early admission. It was so awesome to have such a comfy place to come back and crash at after our jammed packed afternoon and evenings in the park and at City Walk. I think I’ll have to write a whole post about this place because it was so cute and I can’t wait to go back!

Squatty Potty Unicorn gold

I brought home my very first Squatty Potty which I didn’t even know I needed (but now we can’t imagine living without!) as well as unicorn gold which I’ll be giving to all the men for Father’s Day. The stuff is seriously magic. Every time we use a public bathroom now Teddy tells me I should buy a bottle for them and just leave it there hahahaha.

We got to drive around in style thanks to the folks at Kia. And my oh my was that a snazzy ride! And of course I am so grateful to have gone with such an amazing bunch of blogger friends who thankfully loved Harry Potter as much as I did and never rushed me through the magic.

Want More Harry Potter? Check out ALL my Harry Potter crafts, recipes, book lists, and more. I literally have hundreds!

These all look so good. THings to remember to try on vacation at universal studios and the wizarding world of harry potter

Need to know what to eat on your next trip? I’ve got you covered, my foodie family ate so much yumminess when we visited  Universal Orlando and I took tons of pictures and shared the lowdown of the best places to eat at Universal Orlando!

Books to Read in a Garden (or in a Garden Skirt)

I think I was born in the wrong era. I would love so much for my days to be filled with reading in a beautiful flower garden.

books to read in a garden or in a cute garden skirt

Instead I’m go go go with a bazillion things always fighting for my time and attention. And as much as I’d love to don a stuffy dress and lounge in the sun with my current read, a stretchy Cents of Style Floral Skirt is a little more realistic for me. The print is so vibrant it’s almost as good as sitting right in a rose garden, almost.

cute comfy knit floral pencil skirt great for momlife

I thought it would be fun to pretend that I did have that garden reading life and share a bunch of books to read in a garden (or in a garden skirt) as the case might be! I’ve read a lot of great books recently and any of these would be perfect for a little garden escape. There’s a little bit of everything here.

Cute floral skirt and great reading list

Click on the book titles to read the official description of of each!

  • A Study in Charlotte – YA Detective – You guys this follows Charlotte Holmes and Jamie Watson, descendants of THE Holmes and Watson. The college aged counter parts are hilarious, Charlotte has the same vices as her ancestors and the detective tale pulled me right in and was so entertaining. The second book just came out and I can’t wait to read it although the first book totally stands on it’s own. I hope there are many many of these.
  • Flawed – YA Dystopian – I LOVED this book. It took me back to the good old dystopian days with a feel of Delirium and Divergent (but without those awful endings). In this world you have to be perfect. If you make a lapse in moral judgement you’re branded (yup with an iron branded) and labeled as flawed and you are subjected to different rules. That means there is no learning from mistakes, at least not publicly. Just read this it was GOOOD.
  • Frost Like Night (book 3 of the Snow Like Ashes series) – Fantasy – If you want to get wrapped up in a completely different world I adored Frost Like Night, the final book in the Snow Like Ashes trilogy. I did love the whole trilogy which takes place in a world that is divided up into seasons each season is a different realm. There is a crazy amount of action and fighting and magic tied into the different seasons.
  • The Problem With Forever – Contemporary – Confession I’m not quite done with this but it has already grabbed me so hard I didn’t want to leave it off. Mallory hasn’t seen Rider in years despite growing up together on the same bad side of the foster system. It’s been 4 years since that awful night and so many things have changed. This has everything a teen book should, cute boys, great drama, mean girls, parental issues, awesome friends, and some real conflict. I can’t wait to finish it.
  • The Diabolical – YA Sci-Fi – Nemesis was created to be a protector and now she finds herself having to pose as her charge in order to save her life. While undercover though nemesis finds herself in the middle of a twisted political scheme. This was a great dose of Sci-fi, great villains, and relationships. There’s something about it that reminds me of Levana and the Lunars from Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles while being totally different and it’s own story.
  • Anne of Green Gables  – Can you believe I haven’t read this before? I was totally smitten this is a PERFECT book to escape into for a light entertaining read. I listened to the audiobook and it was fabulous. Full of spunk and character Anne isn’t your typical girl but she tries her best to be good. Love her silly conundrums and sweet heart.
  • The Serpent King – YA Contemporary – While this book isn’t all rainbows and sunbeams there’s something about it that really grabbed me. The story follows a group of small town friends with some heavy struggles. Things from not fitting in to living in the shadow of some pretty awful parents the kids are great friends.
  • The Chemist – Ex- Spy Story – This is way more The Host Stephanie Meyer that Twilight Stephanie Meyer and it was good. It was full of adventure with some really fun characters who find themselves running from their former employers. It’s full of fantastic actions, great characters and even some great romance. Plus it’s a solid standalone so perfect for a weekend binge reading session or to take along on a trip!
  • A Torch Against the Night (book # 3 of Ember in the Ashes) – Dystopian/Light Fantasy – Fans of Hunger Games you’ll love this finished series. Obviously start with book one, but these books have been my favorites that I have read over the last year. Such an interesting unique story about kids trained to become ruthless militia tied in with some crazy fantasy and lots of intense action. The characters are amazing and the story is so fun I loved these.

Great reading list. Lots of Young Adult Books

This weekend Cents of Style has a ton of gorgeous and comfy floral skirts like this one on sale. They are all so pretty Just use the code is FLORALSTORY and it will make each skirt $19.95 + FREE SHIPPING. The code is valid 2/17 through 2/19. I love this navy one the fabric is so pretty and comfy and the rose print on it is absolutely stunning in person. And then you too can pretend you’re reading in a beautiful flower garden instead of in between stolen moments of the daily grind!
