What’s For Dinner and I Went Shopping and What are your Favorite Apps?

rolls and honey butter

You guys I’m TOTALLY on a shopping high.  I had such such good luck today and yesterday. If you missed my Instagram of my Joann’s shopping cart it was awesome and overflowing with crazy deals. I LOVE Thanksgiving weekend sales. I know some people think I’m crazy but it’s my favorite. I seriously loaded up a cart and had a list of sku numbers to order full bolts of solids which were 60% off! Wahoo. And no this isn’t a sponsored post haha I just love them.

But I’m also excited to because I was finally able to pick some clothes that actually fit me. I just haven’t wanted to pay for stuff that’s so plain but since it was all on sale it was a lot easier. Plus the baby currently known as Toasty got his first few goodies too.

Our Thanksgiving was nice and delicious but I realized after gobbling everything down that the only picture I had taken was of my rolls and honey butter. But they were mighty tasty I’d have to say.

Finally I’ve been wanting to get a smart phone for over a year. I’ve been eligible for an upgrade for at least 3 haha but I’m so ridiculously indecisive it took me this long first to decide I wanted to go the smartphone route and then to decide which one. So I can say I’m now the proud owner of an iPhone.

A conversation in the mall parking lot:

my sister’s boyfriend: Are you ready for my life to change forever ?

me: I’ll just drop him (the baby) off with you

my sister: he was talking about the phone not the baby

Umm yeah it was like he was my freaking doula so funny he helped me through the purchase and was so excited for me. So far I like it a lot :) So since I”m brand new to all this, what are your favorite apps? Even the super common ones because I know nothing!

What’s For Dinner and Zupas Grand Opening

zupas grand opening at the district

We were lucky enough to go to another Cafe Zupas VIP dinner since they barely opened the doors of their new South Jordan location in The District. As always it was so yummy. I’ve whined before about my fat girl taste buds. I’m just drawn to things that are not the healthiest. But Zupas soups and salads are so yummy that it’s the perfect little trick to get me eating better.

If you are local you’ll want to stop by this new location there’s all kinds of festivities today and then next Saturday the 7th they are having a huge grand opening will be giving out all kinds of goodies including $25 gift cards every 15 minutes all day long and Dec. 5-7 they are doing free dessert with every meal. It’s the perfect place to grab a bite while out doing your Christmas shopping. The new location is in the District shopping area at 11400 S. 3770 W. South Jordan, UT 84095

In other food news this week is Thanksgiving holy moley where did that time go?! I mean really this is going too fast. What are you in charge of this year? I’m on roll, cranberry sauce, and green bean casserole duty! Pretty easy although I keep going back and forth between what kinda rolls I want. Remember that year I made 4 different kinds? Ha that is not happening again.

What’s For Dinner: Back with a Vengeance

Homemade shrimp and pork wontons - Rae Gun Ramblings

I did very little cooking over the past couple months due to my crazy time with work. By the time dinner rolled around I just wanted to get out and not have to think of making something and then cleaning up. But thankfully that’s over so I finally got to inventorying my freezers. They are crazy packed but I had no idea what was in them. My favorite find was 3 huge bags of homemade wontons! I mean seriously those things are so yummy and cook up so fast if I knew they were in there we’d have been eating them. If you’re curious about making your own here’s my homemade wonton recipe completely with a video on how to fold them. Now that I have my trusty list of the contents of my freezers I’m trying to be a good girl and eat what’s in them. So I’m going to try to get back on my What’s for Dinner Posts since those always help me so much.

carte blanche PDX one of my go to Portland eateries #foodtruck #portland - Rae Gun Ramblings

You should be proud of me. I actually cooked this week. It felt like coming back from vacation but you know for two months haha. But now that the weather has finally started cooling down and costumes have exploded in my work room it seems that I’m back on the dinner making wagon.

We did go on a trip during my cooking hiatus. To PAX the video game convention and it was a blast. We drove through Portland to play a Rotten Musician concert and seriously the Northwest might be a little wet but goodness do they have yummy food. What’s For Dinner: Cafe Zupas Edition

Make sure to check out Cafe Zupas when you're in Utah - Rae Gun Ramblings

I totally lucked out and got an invite to Cafe Zupas VIP West Valley pre-opening dinner. The restaurant is now open for those of you who are interested. I have to admit I tried Zupas a few years ago and didn’t see the hype so I’ve never been back but this time both me and my husband were blown away. I can’t believe what I’ve been missing out this whole time. Seriously that first time must have been a fluke. I had the Wisconsin Cheddar Cauliflower soup which I’ve been dreaming of ever since. I’m a soup girl and this is definitely one of my new all time favs and I also got the Vermont Maple Salad which both my husband and I absolutely adored. In fact I loved it so much that I went back with the nieces. I have been working hard at kicking my caffeine habit so I really appreciate when restauarnts offer Diet Caffeine free coke. But even better than that every Zupas has a drink bar with complimentary flavorings so I was able to make myself a diet caffeiene free cherry coke so so good! The girls and I split the chocolate cake and man oh man was it yummy. Any ways if you’re down in West Valley check out the new location or find one close to you here.

What’s For Dinner and Going On: Fort Union Smashburger

smashburger fort union - Rae Gun Ramblings

This was my first week having my nieces everyday while my mom is out of town and boy did we have a whole lot of fun! Dinosaur museum, fancy nails, Princess festival (more on that soon), and so much more (you can see pictures of some of what we’ve been up to on my Instagram). I’m exhausted! We’ve got a ton more fun planned for this week so we’ll see if I crash.

After a fun filled day with the kiddos at the Princess festival we got to go to a VIP dinner at the brand new Fort Union Smashburger. I’ve already mentioned my love for the restaurant but this one is right in my neighborhood. I could seriously go for a long walk and get there so awesome right? If you’ve never been to Smashburger they do flat burgers which I adore. I’m actually one of those weirdos that purposely smashes burgers flat on my own so these were made for me! I Also love love love their sweet potato smash fries which basically are super yummy sweet potato fries with garlic and rosemary on them. Yum! If you’re in the area you should totally swing by the new Smashburger is located at Fort Union and Union Park Ave. in Midvale, Utah.

Also don’t forget that tomorrow is the first day of July’s photo challenge. Participate by following me at @raegunramblings on Instagram and/or twitter and sharing pictures that you think fit the prompt for each day and make sure to tag them #rgrphotoaday. Seeing the different ways that people interpret the prompts is part of the fun. Feel free to be bookish about it or just share your life. Do it as little or as much as you like. I kinda slacked with all my busyness but it’s just for fun right!

What’s For Dinner: Week #174

cauliflower mash and chicken - Rae Gun Ramblingscauliflower mash and chicken - Rae Gun Ramblings

Sheesh it’s been a busy week. I have done a TON of sewing and I have a ton left to do. Like possibly a s Sleeping Beauty dress that needs to be worn in the morning, umm yeah. But it’s been fun. I’ve been watching Project Runway on Hulu while I sew and that’s been fun. Yesterday I had a little realization. I really like sewing. Kind of silly but true and how blessed am I to get to do it for work. I can’t wait to share all the fun things we’ve got going on this week I’ll be posting pictures on instagram if you hang out there.

On the food front I’ve been doing a good job at eating more veggies which is huge for me. In addition to munching on veggies for snacks and such I tried making cauliflower mash (you know instead of mashed potatoes) and let me tell you I AM IN LOVE! Yeah it was so good. I don’t even think the hubby knew it was different until I told him. He gobbled it up without a word. I will definitely be doing again. I’ll be sharing the recipe too so stay tuned.

What’s for Dinner and Going On: LA Girls Night Out Edition

Sewing GNO la

As you know I was in LA last week attending a super fun fabric shopping weekend. A few sewing bloggers and got together for a wonderful fabric shopping weekend. I’ll be sharing more of my fabric spoils, my favorite places to shop for fabric in LA and and awesome giveaway later this week but we closed out the weekend with a wonderful Girls Night Out hosted by Jessica of The Sewing Rabbit.

GNO Los Angelos

(picture from The Sewing Rabbit)

As with all her GNO’s Jess made up some awesome totes and filled them full of goodies from an amazing assortment of sponsors. We each got a bunch of fabric from Jo-Ann Fabric & Craft Stores, awesome interfacing from PellonMichael Miller Fabrics gave us all fabric from their newly released Violet Craft line, there were also the cutest thread spools lined on ribbon and samples of Phoomph from Coats and Clark, a whole charm pack from Dear Stella Design, and 5 great patterns were from McCalls. See loads and loads of pictures from the La Girls Night Out at Jessica’s and also check out her Girl’s Night Out Giveaway that has 11 awesome prizes perfect for crafty girls.

In other news, I finished reading Eat to Live which preaches a diet high in plant based foods so while I’m not interested in following the plan to a tee (basically vegan-ism with 1-2 servings of animal based food a week) I am feeling very convicted to get more vegetables into our diet. If you’re interested in healthy eating or losing weight it is a very interesting read. So here goes.
