Reboot Author Interview and Book Giveaway

I’m here as Reboot’s official Dark Days blogger to share more Reboot goodness. After reading and really liking the advanced copy of Reboot I received I was SO excited to have the opportunity to interview debut author, Amy Tintera! In case you were wondering, Reboot is one those books full of action and fighting (you know how I like fighting), great characters in a curious science-y environment, and just enough romance to satisfy my gushiness.

See what Amy has to say and enter to win a copy of her forthcoming book Reboot below.

Q: What has been your favorite moment as an author so far?
I think my favorite moment was at the ALA Midwinter conference in Seattle. I didn’t have any official signings, but several people sought me out to have me sign their ARCs of REBOOT. It was my first time toever sign a book, and it was such a wonderful feeling to have people so excited about it.
Q: How would you describe Reboot in 10 words or less.
Action-packed adventure about what it means to be human.
Q: If you had to pick a couple fictional characters from another YA book or series to have a play date with Wren and Callum who would you pick and why?

I would pick June and Day from LEGEND. Partly because LEGEND is one of my all-time favorite books, and partly because I think they wouldreally get along with Wren and Callum. Well, Wren and June might just stare at each other, but Callum and Day would get along.
Q: You seem like you’re a big fan of Thin Mints do you have any snacks or foods you like to eat while writing? (see evidence here)

Ha! I am a big fan of Thin Mints (are there people out there who aren’t?!?!). If I’m trying to be healthy, I eat fruit and drink a lot of tea while writing. But sometimes I have Diet Dr. Pepper and Whole Foods sugar cookies instead. And occasionally some Cheetos.
Q: Do you have any news about the Reboot movie that you can share?
A screenwriter is working on the script now. I’m so excited they already have someone writing it, and I can’t wait to read it!
Q: What’s the last YA book you’ve read that you’ve really enjoyed?

I have to list two, because I just read two books that I absolutely loved. GATED by Amy Christine Parker (August 2013), which is a contemporary thriller about a girl who lives in an isolated cult-like community. It was romantic and creepy and so compelling.

And BELLE EPOQUE by Elizabeth Ross (June 2013). I don’t usually read YA historical novels, but this one was AMAZING. It’s about a girl who is hired as an ugly companion to make other girls look prettier, and it was such a beautiful, intriguing book.
Q: What is one of your favorite non-spoiler-y lines from Reboot?
One of the very first lines that came to me when I started REBOOT has been in the novel from first draft to finished book. It’s at the beginning, when Wren is describing Reboots, and I’ve always loved it:

“It was like pretty with a hint of deranged.”
Q: What do you like to do when you’re not writing?
I like to read (of course!). My favorites are young adult and romance novels. I also love good TV, like SCANDAL, DEXTER, DOCTOR WHO, and GAME OF THRONES (among others). And I go to book events often! Los Angeles has a wonderful community of writers, and going to events to hang out with everyone is a blast.
Q: What are you most looking forward to with the Dark Days tour?
I’m looking forward to hearing directly from readers. I spend a lot of time on Twitter, Tumblr, etc, but it’s so much more rewarding to talk to people in person. Book people are my people, so I love talking to them.

And I’m also looking forward to meeting Kiera, Aprilynne, and Liz. I really enjoy talking to other authors, especially those with more experience than me, because they usually have excellent advice and insight.

Q: Is there anything else you’d like people to know about you or Reboot?

I always want people to know that REBOOT blends a lot of action with a healthy dose of romance. So if you like some kissing with your chase scenes, REBOOT might be for you!

Thanks so much Amy! Reboot comes out May 7th or pre-order it now. Enter to win a copy in the rafflecopter widget below (if you don’t see it try refreshing the page).

Official Dark Days Tour Reveal … Drumroll

You know how I LOVE my book signings and author events, well my favorites have got to be the Pitch Dark Days Tours. So, I was crazy thrilled to find out that I get to be an official Dark Days blogger and reveal one of the books/author for this upcoming tour.

Not just that, it’s one of the books that I’ve been most looking forward to all year! Are you ready? I’m so excited to announce that Reboot and author Amy Tintera will be one of the books and authors this time around. Wahoo!!!! And here’s a fun note Amy sent over to help kick things off.

I was actually lucky enough to read an advanced copy of Reboot and I absolutely adored it. If like me you are a fan of kick-butt heroines, cute book boys, and some good solid dystopian like Divergent you should definitely add Reboot by Amy Tintera to your to-read list. If you haven’t heard of Reboot before now check out the synopsis below.

Five years ago, Wren Connolly was shot three times in the chest. After 178 minutes she came back as a Reboot: stronger, faster, able to heal, and less emotional. The longer Reboots are dead, the less human they are when they return. Wren 178 is the deadliest Reboot in the Republic of Texas. Now seventeen years old, she serves as a soldier for HARC (Human Advancement and Repopulation Corporation).

Wren’s favorite part of the job is training new Reboots, but her latest newbie is the worst she’s ever seen. As a 22, Callum Reyes is practically human. His reflexes are too slow, he’s always asking questions, and his ever-present smile is freaking her out. Yet there’s something about him she can’t ignore. When Callum refuses to follow an order, Wren is given one last chance to get him in line—or she’ll have to eliminate him. Wren has never disobeyed before and knows if she does, she’ll be eliminated, too. But she has also never felt as alive as she does around Callum.

The perfect soldier is done taking orders. (synopsis from goodreads)

Also be sure to tune into to Epic Read’s tea time twitter chat at 3:45pm EST for a recap of all the books, authors, and tour locations! I’ll be there, hope to see you there too (I’m @raegunramblings on twitter).

Mila 2.0 and Pitch Dark Days Author/Book Tour

Last week I had the pleasure of going to my second Pitch Dark Days tour and it was so so great. It was my first book tour where I had read (and enjoyed) all but one of the authors. I had a giant bag full of books and had so much fun hearing from and chatting with some awesome authors. As we walked in they gave us all glow in the dark bracelets which I kept forgetting to remove (it finally came off 3 days later after numerous baths and workouts haha).

I’ve already gush about ALL the other authors’ books many times so before I get to more pictures I wanted to share a bit about Debra Driza and Mila 2.0 since this debut just came out this week1 This is a book that I wanted to read the second I saw that gorgeous cover and learned about the main gist – girl discovers she’s an android, actually a government created android oh yea and that makes her stolen property. I love that it starts of feeling just a contemporary novel you know just a normal girl at school but then things go crazy. She gets in an accident and the truth about her identity comes out. Now not only does she have to deal with coming to grips with who she is (as opposed to who the implanted memories she has tell her she is) but there are all kinds of people after her and she’s got to run.

The book took me a second to get into but it was a fun quick read. The characters are super likable and I’m not going to like I was immediately smitten with the cute boy Hunter. It’s got the fun fighting that you know I love and one totally terrifying and twisted villain. The only thing is that I wanted more! At the end of the story I felt like we were just getting started and I so want to know what comes next. Luckily it’s part of a series so I know there will be more.

And since I can’t resist here are a few fun pictures from the signing. Alison from Harper Collins moderated with Dan Wells (Partials) as always was absolutely hysterical. Kiersten White (Paranormalcy and Mind Games) was super cute and funny, if you follow her on twitter you know what I mean. Brody Ashton (Everneath) you already know I adore was her normal ball of joy and self-deprecating humor. She had a new coat that she warned us that was really soft and that she’d be petting it through the whole night (which she did) and she invited us to pet it ourselves. Debra Driza (Mila 2.0) was fun and I was totally in love with her outfit. Claudia Gray (Spellcaster) was the only one who I hadn’t read anything from but after learning about her magic system in Spellcaster (memories and past experiences serve as ingredients to your spells so the more you go on the more powerful a witch you become) I definitely will be reading it. And Lauren Oliver (Delirium) was just so awesome to hear from I have so much respect for her and she is just as lovely in person as you’d expect from her writing.

Me with Lauren Oliver. I’ve actually read a bunch of her books and her writing is gorgeous and full of thought provoking ideas. She gets a special place in my heart because not only do I love the ideas in her books but she’s a fellow philosophy gal (probably part of why her ideas totally get me). Plus she’s a foodie and was such a pleasure to talk with. She was so nice and seemed genuinely interested in meeting us.

My sister is Dan Well’s self-proclaimed stalker. She loves his Partial books and his John Clever series. She made her self an I am Not a Serial Killer shirt and was totally in heaven when he recognized her via twitter name of course! And he brought some weird German treats to share with all of us.

It was so fun hearing from all the authors, finally meeting Epic Read’s mascot King Snarkles and publicist Alison, as well as being able to connect with some awesome Utah book bloggers. Linda and my sister and I made the drive down and found Jenni Elyse first in line, we were second :) and had so much fun talking to her and all the other book bloggers as they showed up. I got to catch up with sit next to Emily from Emily’s Reading Room which was super nice. Visit the other UT book ladies at  It’s All About BooksSqueaky Books, Kami’s Library Thoughts, and Read This Instead.

It was an absolutely wonderful night. If you are a near a Dark Days stop in the future I highly recommend making it a priority to attend. You won’t be sorry.

Dark Days: Meeting Veronica Roth and Dan Wells

The tour was put on by Harper Collins Teen to promote some of their new releases and they just happen to be some of my favorite books of the year and ahem favorite authors.

I may have gone all fangirl crazy on Veronica Roth but whatever hopefully she didn’t think I was too big of a dork. I may have worn my Tris shirt which she seemed to really like (woohoo). That’s her reaction to me showing her my shirt. If you want to see more pictures of the shirt or learn how to make your own see this post.

And I may also have made her a copy of that Insurgent necklace that I made for myself a while back. I’ve got a tutorial and more pictures of the actual necklace if you’re interested in making your own.

Veronica Roth (Divergent) – Dan Wells (Partials) – S.J. Kincaid (Insignia) – Aprilynne Pike (Wings)

The panel discussion was really interesting and fun. I think the best part was while talking about juggling romance in their stories Veronica and Aprilynne were both saying that they have fan voices telling them “it’s time for more kissing” and Dan piped in and said he hears those voices in real life and it’s always time for kissing since he has five kids. They were all really fun.

(lisa – jana – me – tanya – heidilindamark)

My friends and I had a total blast. Does it count as photo bombing if you tell everyone in the picture where to stand so you can place yourself perfectly at the last minute? ahem Mark.

Insignia only came out the day before the tour stopped in SLC so I haven’t read that yet but I am so so excited to read it based on the synopsis and the discussion. And of course the Divergent books and Partials are some of my all time favorites and considering I am NOT a fairy fan at all I really enjoyed the Wings books (I’m still making my way through the series).

Oh and as a cool bonus I finally got to meet Emily who blogs over at Emily’s Reading Room and who has guest blogged over here in person. She was manning the video stuff and you can see a fun interview of the authors in her post here. Also for a chance to win the books from the tour check out Emily’s post here.
