Lemony Snicket Quotes DIY Bottle Cap Necklaces

I love a good quote about reading and Lemony Snicket Quotes are some of the best!

lemony snicket necklace DIY crafting tutorial

I’m super excited that A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket is getting another chance this time on Netflix. I really liked the movie version I thought it was gorgeous and got the wacky quirkiness of the books.

Easiest way to make upcycled bottle Cap necklaces and Lemony Snicket quotes

I read a bunch of the books which I think are lots of fun for your young reader. A lot of silliness and adventure. And there are tons of them. I didn’t get through all of them because I just don’t do middle grade (or this might be younger even, chapter books?) that well and like most book series for this age group the stories are pretty formulaic but they are still fun.

DIY book nerd necklaces. Cute upcycled bottle cap craft tutorial

So I’m excited for the new life and to celebrate I thought I’d pull together some of my favorite book and reading related Lemony Snicket quote because there are tons. And of course I had to make a couple into some bookish necklaces because I can’t pass up a good book quote necklace!

What You Need

What to Do

  1. Print and punch out your images.
  2. Glue image into your bottle cap and allow to dry 1 hour.
  3. Add a thick layer of dimensional magic and let dry at least 3 hours.
  4. Glue a necklace bail or pin back onto the bottle cap!

I just love how these turned out! In the past we used to do Resin Bottle Cap pins and necklaces but I love that this technique is SO fast, simple and you don’t have to mix a huge batch of resin. You could easily just make one at a time.

I had such a hard time choosing between all the awesome bookish Lemony Snicket quotes I thought I would share a few of the runners up!

DIY Elf Dolls Tutorial

Remember those giant dolls? Well they aren’t pirates any more, I made them the cutest (and easiest) Elves Costumes!

Adorable Elf Dolls tutorial with free patterns

I apologize for the super long video. I’ve been sick and now the little one is sick so I didn’t have a chance to edit it down and I thought eep Christmas is SOOON I just need to share this. But I hope to come back and replace this FB LIVE replay with a bare bones tutorial version!

Speaking of FB live if you don’t already know I go live twice a week usually sharing some kind of sewing or crafting project and every once in a while cooking :) You can catch me on the Rae Gun Ramblings page Mondays at 4 PM EST and Tuesday at 1 PM EST.

Supplies

The pattern is available as a FREE DOWNLOAD to my newsletter subscribers. You can download the pattern here along with many other free patterns and templates.

  • The password is in every newsletter so if you’re already a subscriber check your last newsletter near the bottom the go to this page to access the patterns.
  • Or if you’re not already a subscriber sign up right here and when you confirm your email it should give you a welcome page with the password for my downloads page.

What to Do

  • Sew the Dolls according to the directions on the fabric panel. You can watch me sew the girl one in the video above or the boy in this video.
  • Cut the pattern pieces out. I used woven for the stripes but in retrospect I could have easily used the knit version and wouldn’t have to worry about fraying. But I think the fraying adds to the pirate feel.
  • Note I’m not doing any finishing work since they are doll costume but if you want to finish your seams, edge stitches the pointy edges, press and all that feel free too!
  • I used 1/4 inch seam allowances

Boy Elf Doll Costume

  1. With right sides together sew the straight sides of the short pieces together (this will make the center seams).
  2. Open up and sew along the curve of the inseam.
  3. Iron the top edge under 1/2 inch and sew down to form a casing making sure to leave an opening for the elastic.
  4. Insert elastic. Sew ends of elastic together and close up the hole in the casing. The shorts are now done
  5. Make the vest by sewing the front vest pieces to the back vest piece at the top edge.
  6. Then sew the side seams from the markings making sure to leave holes for the arms.
  7. Top stitch the ric rac onto the right side of the vest along the front edge and neck. Now your vest should be done.
  8. Cut a length of ribbon for the sash. And attach a Holly Shoe Jingle Bell.

  5. Wrap a Holly Shoe Bell around one of her pony tails and you’re good to go.

Every year Jamielyn invites loads of talented bloggers to share tons of awesome crafts, recipes, and printables perfect for Christmas. Hop over to see how I made these fun Holly Shoe Bells. P.S. I made the pattern in 3 sizes baby, kiddo and teen/adult.

UPDATED: The following tutorial originally appeared on I Heart Naptime on 11/29/2016

I love the festive little jingle the little holly adds to every step. But more than that I love how quick and easy this little craft comes together.

Such a fun way to dress up our shoes for Christmas. Easy jingle bell holly shoe accessories. Full tutorial and free pattern.

This is easy enough that even elementary school kids who can do basic hand sewing could make their own if you help them cut out the leaves.

Christmas shoe craft. Cute jingle bell holly accessories.

What You Need

How to make Christmas holly shoes that jingle. Easy craft tutorial

What to Do

  1. Cut 2 holly leaves out for each shoe you want to dress up. There are three sizes on the pattern so they can work for baby shoes, kids, and teens/ adults.
  2. Cut a pipe cleaner in half and then fold that in half to find the middle.
  3. Sandwich the middle of the pipe cleaner between the points of two leaves. Take a couple stitched to sew the pipe cleaner to the leaves.
  4. Thread one bell onto your needle and stitch in place. Repeat for the rest of bells.
  5. Take a couple extra stitches to secure the sewing in place before knotting. This will help prevent the stitch from pulling through if the bells get man handled.
  6. Secure the bling to the shoe by threading one side through a shoelace hole and twisting. Alternatively you can simply slide the pipe cleaner under the shoelace and twist to fasten it in place.

I think these turned out so stinking cute. My 2 1/2 year old little boy got SO excited when I put one on his shoe he LOVED dancing and spinning around.

And as adorable as I think it is I love that when we went to watch his cousin’s gymnastic competition I could quickly and easily remove the holly so we wouldn’t be disruptive.
