So I’m coming off(hopefully) of what seems like over a month of dealing with fires. Sharing a car was okay since I was in between teaching terms so my main concerns were getting to the gym and to the post office to mail the raegun stuff. But on the other side being stuck at home really wasn’t much fun. Thank goodness I was raised to love the Olympics. I remember the excitement of my mom and sister and I during those school free summers when the Olympics were on. And since I spent most of my childhood in a gym, I remember “being” Shannon Miller while everyone else still wanted to “be” Kim Zmeskal long before the ’96 games. That said I was so frustrated with the gymnastics this year. I just felt so bad for the American girls. First off it’s very likely the Chinese cheated and lied about their own gymnasts age. Then there were tons of bizarre calls all leaning to the Chinese side. I mean poor Alicia Sacramone lost a medal to a girl who freaking put her knees down. And how dumb was the tie-breaking system for poor Nastia Liukin. It was fun seeing little Shawn Johnson and the rest of them but every weird landing and impact brought back all those sensations from when I was a little gym rat. Breathing in chalk at the bars, landing funny on vault, and wobbling on turns on the beam; it’s funny for me most of the feelings that returned were fear of getting hurt and searching for my chapstick during meets as a weird stress habit. I hope you all had fun watching your favorite Olympic events as much as I did. Makes me kinda want cable for girl friendly sports, but not really, once every 2 years -I also did ice skating- is plenty for me.

I feel the same way about the girls gymnastics!
I think it might take a while to adjust to life without the Olympics, I really enjoyed them this year!
The Olympics were great to watch this year!
