Great books that would be fantastic movies, tv shows and mini series - Rae Gun Ramblings

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday with The Broke and the Bookish is top ten books that you’d like to see made into movies or TV shows in a perfect world where everything is done perfectly.

  • Ready Player One – I’d love movie for this. I picture it like a fun Willy Wonka meets video game and 80’s pop culture for grown ups. I just think it would make a really fun movie.
  • The Night Circus – I think this would be a great mini-series or TV show. The story is so slow building and what I adored was the journey not just key points which I feel is what movies do well so I’d love to see a longer treatment of this.
  • Parallel – This would make an amazing TV show. I love the intertwining timelines and each episode could be a day. If you haven’t read the book it’s like a reverse Groundhogs day where each day the main character wakes up and finds her yesterdays have changed. She has to check her phone for pictures to see if she’s still dating who she things she is, quiz her roommate and best friend about her schedule for the day but more than that there’s this awesome overarching story.
  • The Girl of Fire and Thorns Series – I just want to see this world come to life and I think the type of magic and fighting would make a good movie. I would love to see great films made out of these
  • His Fair Assassins books – I’m thinking these would would need to be a mini series, maybe a longish one
  • The Insignia books – Movies for sure. I can see these as being like Harry Potter in the sense of all the kids living and learning together and quirky friends but in a super scientific setting instead of a magical world
  • The Summer books – I think these could make a fun TV show like maybe with a Dawson’s creek feel or something similar.
  • The Scorpio Races – Movie, it’s kinda a slow starter for a book and I know that the story telling is a bit slow for a lot of people’s tastes but I adored the book and I think even more people would fall in love with a movie
  • The Grisha Trilogy – These books are so good I would adore movies but the characters are so complex I’m not sure if they could be done justice. Possibly a mini-series?
  • Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares – This book is so stinking cute it just screams to be a holiday movie to me.
Let’s connect! You can also find me hanging out here.

I hate that I haven’t read The Girl of Fire and Thorns yet– DRIVES ME CRAZY. hahaha I have it, yet never choose it when it is time to start a new book! I think Shadow and Bone would be ridiculously amazing. I haven’t read The Summer books yet, but I do own them and they definitely give off a Dawson’s Creek vibe! haha

Dash and Lily would make the cutest movie. It’d be fun and I think it’d be great to see them and their scavenger hunt as it happens… :D

I wasn’t a huge fan of Lily & Dash’s Book of Dares but I could see it being a really gorgeous Christmas movie. The story would translate really well to film! Great list :)

Parallel and The Summer I Turned Pretty are fantastic choices. I never even thought of them for my list. Well I thought of Parallel, but I already had Pivot Point and didn’t want to overload on parallel life books. ;-)

Yes! Yes! Yes! Let It Snow is another book that would make a fabulous Christmas montage-type movie.

Dash&Lily would be an awesome christmast-time movie, sooo agree with you, Marissa. It’s soo cute and fluffy <3 And yay yay yay, The Night Circus also mentioned here! In a perfect world the visual of the movie would be amaaaaazing.
I'm curious about Ready Player One. That cover is attractive! Will make sure to check what is it about later :D

I have been seeing a lot of Girl of Fire and Thorns lately. I must read it. I’ve heard nothing but good things about it. I also really like the idea of the Night Circus as a mini series (although I haven’t read it). Mini series tend to stay truer to the story than tv shows and are more detailed than movies.

It’s a great list and maybe some day we’ll see some of these on the big screen!

Your list is fantastic! Parallel sounds really interesting so I’m going to check it out. I haven’t read the His Fair Assassins books but I agree, they do seem like they could be a mini series!

Thanks for stopping by my TTT post earlier. Have a great week!

I could be completely losing my mind here, but I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that Dash and Lily IS being made into a movie. That book is enchanting.

I’ve only read SHADOW AND BONE from this list, though I want to read others! It was a good book, and I think it could be very interesting (if done right and well) as a movie.

I just read The Scorpio Races. I loved that book! I think, if it was done VERY well, it would be a wonderful movie. I would be interested to see how they portrayed the water horses.

I have no patience for those who don’t love The Scorpio Races, it is flawless. I’m so excited for Ready Player One, I think it has already been picked up but IMBD is withholding the info, and I’d kill for a good adaptation of the Night Circus. My TTT

I just finished reading Ready Player One! It’s crazy, you predicted it! They are making a movie based on the book in 2018!
