I’ve been waiting for this day for a long time. It’s finally the release day for The Lazy Waves first album. Woohoo. You can listen to the whole thing online and even download it for free -they say donations are super appreciated. This is a new band with kinda a cool, folksy, smooth sound but over beats. It reminds me of some of the music I fell in love with while traipsing around Europe during my short study abroad term at Oxford. If you need some song recommendations my favorites are “Get Me Through This” and “Freeway to Nowhere” which have more of a soulful beat (I’m a sucker for soul) and “The Game of Life” which reminds me of Robbie Williams in a good way.
And since I’m not the best at describing music I wanted to include this little write up by Mark Dago.
Creative distractions tempt the muse and The Lazy Waves are no exception to that thought. The Waves are a ‘Happy’ three piece group without all that unimaginative cheer. ‘Happy’ in a soothing sort of way. Think ‘Tears For Fears’ over break beats. Their debut project of the same name is a hook filled chain reaction of sonic indie-airness. The lulling vocal talent of Michael Gross come together perfectly with the joyous melodies and assimilates into the sample-collaging of Daniel Fischer’s colorfully dense production. Perfectly calculated textures of keyboard emphasis are sprinkled in throughout the long play by Matt Glass. Don’t bother pressing the ‘Not Interesting’ button , the ten tracks of melodic strut and breezy pop eclecticism is not only easy on the ears but a welcome breath of fresh air in this post modern ruse of generic musical soundscapes. From the finely tuned, pitch perfect cuts like ‘It Ain’t Over (‘Til You’re Gone) & ‘Believe And Achieve’ to the persistent optimism of the horn section and the sharp samples on ‘Freeway To Nowhere’ The Waves showcase the work of extremely commanding and intentional songwriters that flex their talents into new directions. A dynamic game changer of what The Lazy Waves hopefully aim to accomplish over and over and over again.
